014. தூய்மை யோகமாயினாய் (Not an easy one to mention about)

தூய்மையோக மாயினாய்து ழாயலங்கல் மாலையாய்
ஆமையாகி யாழ்கடல்து யின்றவாதி தேவநின்
நாமதேய மின்னதென்ன வல்லமல்ல மாகிலும்
சாமவேத கீதனாய சக்ரபாணி யல்லையே

Translation:

Basel Garlanded Lord, thou hath the flawless state,
Primal Lord who - as a turtle - stood submerged in the ocean,
Nobel identity of thine is not an easy one to mention! - Yet
Basal theme of Samaveda - shows thou as the discus wielded one!!

Translation in simple English by Dr. N Ranganathan:

Thou bring forth the purified state (to the embodied souls), O' Lord adorned by the garland of the tender Tulasi leaves. As the ancient cause, Thou took the form of the divine turtle and stayed under the deep ocean (at the time of the churning of the ocean of milk). I do not have the capacity to delineate the glorious attributes of Thy divine incarnations. However I know Thee to be the Lord with the discus, glorified in Sama Veda (Chaandogyam).

தூய்மை யோகம் ஆயினாய் துழாய் அலங்கல் மாலையாய்

ஆமையாகி ஆழ் கடல் துயின்ற ஆதிதேவ நின்

நாமதேயம் இன்னதென்ன வல்லமல்ல ஆகிலும்

சாமவேத கீதனாய சக்ரபாணி அல்லையே

Introduction:

அவதாரிகை -

நம் அவதார ரஹச்யம் நீர் அறிந்த படி என் என்னில் - பிரயோஜனாந்த பரர்க்காக திர்யக் சஜாதீயனாய் வந்து அவதரித்த உன் குணங்களை பரிச்சேதித்து  அறிய மாட்டேன் ஆகிலும் -அவ்வடிவு வேதைக சமதிகம்யம் என்று அறிந்தேன் என்கிறார் -

Azhwar in this verse, replies to the Lord who happened to question him as to how he came to know of the secret behind His incarnations. Azhwar says that he may be unable to fully describe the glorious attributes of the Lord who once took the form of the divine turtle (Koorma avataara) for the sake of the devas who were interested in getting the nectar from the ocean of milk. He knows however, that the resplendent form is that of the discus carrying Lord seated in the solar system glorified in the Chaandogyam.

வியாக்யானம்

தூய்மை யோகமாயினாய் -

அசித் சம்சர்க்கத்தாலே அசுதனான சம்சாரிக்கு உன் கிருபையாலே அசித் சம்சர்க்கத்தை அறுத்து -நித்ய சூரிகளோடு சேர்த்து உன்னை அனுபவிக்க வல்ல சுத்தி யோகத்தை உடையவனே -சம்சாரி சுத்தி யோகத்துக்கு நிர்வாஹகன் ஆனவனே -இத்தால் - சம்சார உத்தரணத்துக்கு உபாயமும் நீயே என்கை ஹேய ப்ரத்ய நீகன் ஆனவனே இ றே -சேதனருக்கு சம்சாரம் ஆகிற அசுதியைப் போக்க வல்லான் 

துழாய் அலங்கல் மலையாய் - 

சர்வேஸ்வர சிஹ்னமான திருத் துழாய் மாலையாலே அலங்க்ர்தன் ஆனவனே திருத் துழாய் -நாதத்வ சிஹ்னம் ஆகையாலும் -போஹ்யத்வ சிஹ்னம் ஆகையாலும் ப்ராப்ய பூதனும் நீயே என்கை

ஆமையாகி -

பிரயோஜநாந்தர பரரான தேவர்களுக்கு அமர்த மதனதுக்கு அனுகூலமான கூர்ம வேஷத்தை கொண்டு

ஆழ் கடல் துயின்ற -

அகாதமான கடலிலே மந்த்ரம் அமிழ்ந்தாத படி உன் முதுகிலே அது நின்ற சுழலக் கண் வளர்ந்து அருளினவனே - "ஷீரோத மத்யே த்வபவத் கூர்ம ரூபீஸ்வயம் ஹரி" -எண்ணக் கடவது இ றே

வாதிதேவ -

ஜகத்துக்கு நீயே காரண பூதன் என்னும் இடத்தை பிரகாசிப்பித்தவனே பிரயோஜநாந்த பரர் என்று பாராதே அவர்கள் ஆபத்துக்கு உன்னை அழிய மாறி உதவுகை யாகிற இது உத்பாதகர்க்கு அல்லது கூடுமோ என்கை

நின் நாமதேயமின்னதென்ன வல்லமல்ல வாகிலும் -

கூர்ம ரூபியான தேவரீர் உடைய குண சேஷ்டிதங்களை  ஏவம் விதம் என்று பரிச்சேதித்து சொல்ல மாட்டேன் ஆகிலும் -

நின்னாமதேயம் -

என்று வாச்யமான குண செஷ்டிதங்களை தத் வாசகமான சப்தத்தாலே லஷிக்கிறது - 

சாமவேத கீதனாய சக்ர பாணி அல்லையே –

நீ அழிவுக்கு இட்ட கூர்ம விக்ரஹம் சாந்தோக்ய சித்தமாய் -கையும் திரு வாழியுமான அதி ரமணீய விக்ரஹம் என்று அறிந்தேன் - "யஷோந்தராதித்யே ஹிரண்மயம் புருஷோ தர்ச்யதே" -என்றும்

"சவித்ர் மண்டலமத்யே வரதீ நாராயணா -த்ர்த சங்கசக்ர" -என்றும் சொல்லக் கடவது இறே

The vedic and Pasuram quotations given in the Vyakyanam are given below with their context

1. ஷீரோத மத்யே பகவான் கூர்ம ரூபீ ஸ்வயம் ஹரி
   மந்தராத்ரேரதிஷ்டானம் ப்ரமதோபூன்மஹாமனே (Vishnu Puraanam 1-9-88)
   "In the center of the ocean of milk, Lord Hari who assumed the form of the divine turtle Koorma became the support of the Mandara mountain (during the churning)"
2. ய ஏஷோ அந்தராதித்யே ஹிரண்மயம் புருஷோ தர்ச்யதே ஹிரண்மயஸ்மஸ்ருர்
   ஹிரண்யகேஸ ஆப்ரணகாத் சர்வ ஏவ ஸுவர்ண: தஸ்ய யதா கப்யாஸம் புண்டரீகமேவமக்ஷிணி
   (Chandogyam 1-6 and 7)
   "The Person seen seated in the center of the sun, who is beautiful like gold, who has a golden beard and golden hair, every part of whose body from the nail upward is golden. That Person has two eyes that are like the lotus blossomed by the sunrays"
3. த்யேயஸ் ஸதா சவித்ர் மண்டலமத்யே வரதீ
   நாராயணாயஸ் சஸரஸிஜாஸன ஸன்னிவிஷ்ட
   கேயூரவான் மகரகுண்டலவான் கிரீடி
   ஹரீ ஹிரண்மயவபுர் -த்ர்த சங்கசக்ர

   "Narayana who is in the center of the sun, seated on the lotus, adorned by beautiful armlets, ear rings, crown and garland, who has a golden physical form, who carries the conch and the discus, is to be meditated upon always"
